I'm just curious, for those areas banning Pit Bull breeds, would they include mutts? I know one dog that is part Dachshund, part Pit Bull. He's the size of a large Dachshund, has the body shape of a Dachshund, long ears, with the head of a Pit Bull. Not quite as big as a Pit Bull's head. Would he be considered a "dangerous" dog? This dog has a face only a mother could love...ok, he's butt ugly, but so ugly he's cute type thing. It's not my dog. It's a dog that comes to the dog park.

Breed banning?????????????
the good, the bad, the ugly?
I was thinking of enrolling my dachshund in class there but have heard that it is more about socialization. She is constantly around 4 other dogs plus various friends puppies. Paying 109 to get her used to other dogs would be useless. She's been doing great with her sit and come although her down isn't very good. Should I continue with the at home practices and wait till the beginner classes when she's five months or just enroll her?

Pet-smart Puppy Classes...?
My sister called me this morning, and at first what she was describing didn't sound familiar, but as soon as she told me the ferris wheel part, it rang the right bells and I remember this as one of my favorite cartoons growing up... only we can't remember the name, or find anything in searches online.

A little girl (we're pretty sure she's a small girl with short red hair) is living with a large, mean woman (possibly an aunt or something) who is always wearing an ugly green clay mask, with a fat dachshund or weenie dog that eats sweets all day and rides around on a skateboard because he's too overweight to get around otherwise.

The girl eventually decides to run away, down a rope made of blankets out her window, and she goes to an old cabin in the woods that she stays in until her pilot father returns to be with her in the end.

At first we thought Oliver & Company, but that isn't right. Maybe the Rescuers but we can't find anything to show that it is that... and my sister is POSITIVE that it's the Tom and Jerry Movie.

So does anyone know what we're talking about??
I really appreciate the help!

What is the name of this cartoon movie?
Well this has partly to do with dogs and partly not! Well this dog in our neighbourhood keeps getting loose. So then when I opened our front door to see what was going on my 15 year old sister and her friend were sitting on the porch. I asked if that dog got loose again and Torie(my sister's friend) said really rudely YEAH GO GET HIM!! So I told her "its not my dog so im not getting him" (but I ended up going anyway) after I said that she's like YOU WANT TO BE A VET SO GO GET THE DAMN DOG!!! Then after I returned the dog. I was going into my house and Torie was like Oh and by the way Your NOT getting your puppy soon, your mom said that your not getting it until your 14th B-day. (which is a complete lie because my parents and I agreed that I am getting my puppy in 5 months.) Well I told her " I know when im getting my dog and you don't so shut up!!" Oh and before every time I brought up the subject of my puppy and what kind im getting she's like "NO YOUR NOT GETTING A COCKER SPANIEL YOUR GETTING A BORDER COLLIE OR A JACK RUSSELL!!" I tell her a million times that Im only allowed to get a small dog so I can't get a border collie and I don't want a really really hyper dog like a jack russell and everytime I talk about like the dog breeds I want ( for example a dachshund) she says EWWW YOU CHOOSE ALL THE UGLY ONES!! Well sorry for going on and on. But my question is how can I get her to stop choosing the dog breeds for me? And no matter how much I argue with her she still wins. Please help!! ThanksYes everyone in the neighborhood already knows about the dog getting loose. My sister hates me! Lol.

Omg please help she's making me SOOOOO MAD!!!?
My friend has a dog that's 1/2 Dachshund and 1/2 Boston Terrier. It's really funny looking but he's got an adorable personality so it doesn't matter. I wish I had a picture to show of him, he's just so different looking! I told my friend he should enter that "World's Ugliest Dog Contest" on Animal Planet and he laughed. It was sad how he got him. He was actually from a Boston Terrier rescue group that had gotten him and two litter mates from a horrible backyard breeder who had I guess around 50 toy dogs in really bad conditions. Luckily, I believe most of them found homes. I currently have 2 purebred Shetland Sheepdogs but I've had some wonderful mixed breeds. My favorite was my Lab/Shepherd (a very common mix) named Walter. He was a wonderful companion and everyone loved him! Anyways, if anyone has an unusual mix, do you have a picture? I'd love to see them!

Do you have a mixed breed dog that is a really funny or unusual mix?
In the void created by technology, many breeds of dogs no longer perform their original function. Some have mentioned recently that many breeds have found a new niche in "modern" activities -- agility, obedience trials, therapy work, flyball, dock diving, etc.

Do you think it is acceptable to breed dogs to excel at these modern activities, despite the fact that they may have nothing to do with the dog's original function?

Example 1: Breeding a line of "agility" Border Collies, or "obedience" Belgian Tervuren.

Example 2: Crossing Border Collies and Border Terriers to get a "better" Flyball dog.

Example 3: Breeding two Labradors with excellent Guide Dog potential, even if they are not structurally sound.

Example 4: Breeding Dachshunds who win Weenie Dog Races, or Chinese Cresteds in order to get your next "World's Ugliest Dog" winner.

Is there a line to be drawn here, somewhere? Or is all of this okay, since the dogs are performing a function?

Breeding dogs for "modern" activities?
So here's the deal...

I go to the pet shop alot. I keep seeing this dog, my favorite of all time, and I named him Oliver. He is a red-dapple Dachshund. Most people call him ugly or say that he's cute and go walk off. I've never seen anybody hold/play with him (My sister hasn't either and she works there). We are very attached and he forms bonds quickly. I really like him but he happens to be $1,200. But my sister gets a 30% discount so it would be either $800 or $900 or something like that. My parents say we have too many animals, but if they bought him for me I have a bed, and extra time to take him places! I would even pay for his food and he would be my #1 priority dog-wise. Because I have a cat I love to death. I'm supposed to get over $220 for my birthday, the most would be $440. Then I might get $150 on September 21. And that's only from people outside of my family. My parents are paying the most would be $400 for my birthday party, so I might not get a birthday present. If I got Oliver, I'd pay them atleast $220 back and I could make him get another Dachshund pregnant so I'd get 50% the profit. So basically they would get most of their money back! I don't see why I shouldn't be able to get him...

I did the math and if I got the $150 I would pay them:
The cost for him will be approximatley: $840.00
If I got $150 and $440 I'd pay them back: $590.00
If I got $150 and $220 I'd pay them back: $370.00

I also won't ask for a Christmas present. This isn't counting what I'm getting from family and in a year I can pay them back with allowances, and I'll get a job.

What do you think? I should get the dog? Or I shouldn't?This petstore adopts from animal shelters because you can call them and get the information about the dog. You can also talk to them about the dog's family.Maybe I will adopt from a shelter if I can adopt... thanks everybody!I'm taking everybody's advice and want to thank everybody personally.

What Would You Do? Dog Question?
I have a collection of Disney DVDs and I do not understand why Disney Channel does not show any of their original movies!!!
I would like to see The Computer Who Wore Tennis Shoes (old Kurt Russell movie), Whiz Kid and The Carnival Caper, The Witch Mountain movies, The Shaggy Dog movies, Babes in Toy-land, The Monkey's Uncle, there are so many more to name all of them.

I have Candle Shoe, Monkey's Go Home, Hans Brinker; or the Silver Skates, Old Yeller, Savage Sam, Parent Trap I & II (the Haley Mills ones), Summer Magic, The Moon Spinners, The Happiest Millionare, Bon Voyage, The Watcher in the Woods, and The Ugly Dachshund. These movies are classic and each one teaches something- what happened to these wonderful movies? I also have a lot of live action with animation and a lot of animated Disneys, it is a shame Disney does not show these anymore- I think kids would get a lot more from them.

Maybe we should boycot Disney until they bring some of these back.

Why does Disney Channel not show any of their original shows or movies?
I already have a desexed female who we got from the same shelter almost 2 years ago, so obviously her smell is all over the house. Our new dog (a staffy/dachshund cross, so ugly he's cute, lol) has been peeing all over the garden but hasn't done anything in the house yet - does anyone know if he's likely to? And if he does, what should I do? Thanks so much for your input! The dog was surrendered to the RSPCA because the owner's psycho neighbours threatened to poison him and his littermates. He was desexed at six months and his mother was a dachshund, father a Staffie. No best answer for you, no a medal in dog-ology either! The dog was surrendered to the RSPCA because the owner's psycho neighbours threatened to poison him and his littermates. I have just adopted a desexed male dog, 18 months old, he marks in the yard but will he do it in the house?
i think the cocker spaniel is the prettiest and pugs and dachshunds are the ugliest.
